Qualifying for Code 57
Communication Disability (Grades 1 -12)
This is an Alberta Education assigned code. When your child is coded it doesn’t have to be a bad thing; sometimes codes can help your child access support. Code 57 does not “come with money” in the same way that some preschool codes grant students funding (e.g., Program Unit Funding (PUF)). However, after a comprehensive assessment, this older student could possibly apply for Code 57 (through their school) and be diagnosed with a communication disability/ disorder. Once a child is assigned this code, it opens up doors to additional support at the school level. They may have trouble expressing their wants, needs, thoughts or stories. They may have trouble reading. Maybe they have a hard time producing speech sounds, or they may stutter when they talk.
Baseline has the assessment tools required to support an application for this code, and we can’t wait to see you and your child so we can discuss all the levels of support you can advocate for on behalf of your child.
